One morning I awoke from unsettling dreams, I slowly checked my phone to see how much time I had left until my alarm went off. I had just woken from a deep sleep, so everything felt foggy. It was only 7:30 A.M. I closed my eyes to what seemed to be a second, but it turned out to be thirty minutes. I started to rub my eyes, but I was suddenly shocked. I had poked myself in the eye with one of my nails. I got mad and proceeded to the bathroom to take my shower. I was beyond tired and moving slowly. It was a rough Monday morning, but something felt weird. I walked into the bathroom, past the mirror, and headed towards the showers. I got a weird glimpse of myself as I walked by the mirror. I thought to myself, it was for sure just time to shave my mustache. I looked in the mirror and my jaw dropped. I was transformed into a sloth. I had long claws and a hairy brown body. I put water on my face and eyes as I tried to rub them quickly, but I was moving so slowly. Inside, I was panicking but my mind was going too fast for my body. I went back to my room before anyone saw me. I didn’t have to worry about being loud as I slowly walked back to my bed. My roommate was still sound asleep by the time I reached my bed. I put my blankets over my body and went back to bed. My roommate later shook me. “ Wake up, Sean, you’re going to be late for class.” I screeched at him and he left the room running. Since I had the room to myself until 10:45, I decided to take the blanket off my head. I stayed in bed as my roommate would return soon for his free period during the day. I was too warm under the blankets as I wasn’t used to all that extra hair. I looked at my arms and legs as I laid in my bunk bed. I climbed all over the beds. It was a little jungle gym that I enjoyed. I was happy with my transformation because I thought it was pretty cool, but I later disliked my transformation because I moved too slowly. I wouldn’t be able to skate fast and I wouldn’t be able to catch anything. Sports would be impossible for me, and to me, sports were everything.
Time passed as I worried about my future. I heard my roommate fumble with his keys as he approached the door. I covered myself with the blanket just in time. He thought I was still sleeping. He stayed in the room for an hour as he waited for his next class. He did his homework quietly then left.
I went back to sleep so that maybe this strange nightmare would end. I woke up later to the sound of the fire alarm. My roommate was shaking me, telling me that we had to get out. I walked fast down the hall and down the stairs. My friends were outside, and it was snowing. I was still zoned out and still asleep. “ Are you okay?” I looked at myself from head to toe in disbelief. I was a human and I must’ve had a crazy dream. “ I’m a little cold, but I’m doing great. Everyone looked at me weirdly as I was shirtless, in my boxers and wearing flip flops in a snow blizzard.
