American Dream

There’s a core in every family,

 Its nucleus or control center.

That place happens to be here.

In this chaotic jungle.

It’s where we all were raised.

Where we learned how to count in Spanish,

Speak in Spanish and nearly breathe in Spanish.

Located smack-dab in the middle

Of a rundown mill city.

This was the life she dreamt of,

In her secluded home

In paradise.

Over forty years ago,

this was her version of the

American Dream.
